Benzoin

|
Comes from southeast Asia. From the Styrax
family it is also called Styrax Banjamin, a derivation from the Arabic
"Luban Javi", which means "Frankincense from Java". It is
a resin, which means that you cannot dissolve it in water, but usually it can
in alcohol. During combustion it gives a rich Vanilla like scent. In the
Greek-orthodox churches Benzoin is often used in the incense vessel. As an
oil it is sometimes used as a fixative for perfumes. Often it is sold as a
powder because the lumps are big and brittle. Take care of the fact that
allergic reactions of the skin are possible. |
